The HKIE Prize and the HKFA Awards
The eighth event of the Asian Tour’s elevated International Series heads to Hong Kong Golf Club for the LINK Hong Kong Open. As with all of the events in the series, there is a prize purse of $2 million. The winner will receive a check for $360,000, while the runner-up will earn $260,000.
US lawmakers have nominated the pro-democracy activists of Hong Kong for the Nobel peace prize, praising their global inspiration in the face of Beijing’s crackdown on dissent. In a letter to the Nobel committee, nine lawmakers from both parties praised the activists as “as one of the largest mass protests in history, and also the most widely supported and peaceful, in a city with 7.5 million people”.
The HKIE Prize for Outstanding Engineering Students is an annual award to reward higher education institutions, and their individual student winners, for their outstanding engineering research achievements. The prize provides a platform for Hong Kong’s top engineering students to showcase their creativity and contribute to the development of industry in the region.
Since its inception in 2024, the award has grown from strength to strength. The HKIE prize has now become the benchmark of excellence in engineering education and is one of the most highly-acclaimed awards in Hong Kong.
In order to promote the development of Hong Kong-related studies and research, this prize seeks to encourage the development of new theories, concepts and methods for studying Hong Kong’s relationship with China, Asia and beyond. In addition to encouraging the development of academic and practical Hong Kong-related studies, this prize also aims to foster the communication between scholars in Hong Kong and those from overseas.
The winner will be awarded a trophy, and a certificate. In addition, the winning submission will be promoted and presented to a wide range of stakeholders in the development sector. It will also be published on the HKIE website for public access and promotion.
A total of 68 tickets won the HK$188 million first division prize in the Mark Six Lunar New Year snowball draw on February 2, a record high. Each ticket holder took home a HK$705,770 prize.
The HKFA is a yearly film award hosted by the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Association (HKFAA). The awards are given to films that meet two of the following criteria: the film director is from Hong Kong, at least one of the film companies involved in production is registered in Hong Kong, and at least six members of the film crew are residents of Hong Kong.
The HKFA’s award ceremony takes place in mid-May. The winning films will then be shown in cinemas across the country for a period of six weeks. The judging panel consists of twelve leading figures from the Hong Kong film industry. The winning films are then entered into the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The HKFA is the most important and reputable international film award in Asia. Each year, more than 300 films are entered in the competition.
