What is Data Sgp?

Data Sgp is a tool to help teachers and families understand the growth of their students on state assessments. It provides teachers with a tool to make informed decisions about instructional practices that will most positively impact student performance.

Data sgp is an online database that allows educators to analyze the progress of their students across the curriculum and by subject area. The tool is updated in real-time to reflect new and current test scores. Teachers can access their sgp data for all content areas, msp data, and sgp data for the past 3 years. This information can also be viewed by teacher, grade, and group.

For each student, sgp data is compared to the statewide average sgp for their grade. This is done using a statistical method called quantile regression that places the student’s performance relative to the performance of academic peers. This makes it possible for two students to have the same scale score, yet have different SGPs. Students who score at the very top of the state scale will typically have a high SGP but not necessarily the highest overall percentile rank.

A student’s sgp data is calculated using up to two years of MCAS assessment data. This data is used to create a model that compares a student’s current test score with the median of their two previous MCAS test scores. In order to earn a valid SGP, a student must have at least one assessment score in the same year and at least one prior assessment score from an earlier testing window (Fall, Winter, or Spring; these windows do not need to correspond to the school’s school year).

SGP data is available for students in grades 8th through 10th. In these grades, SGPs are based on comparisons to academic peers who have similar MCAS test score histories and include all students statewide, regardless of race/ethnicity, economic status, or education program (i.e., special education, sheltered English immersion).

In addition to the SGP data, students can view detailed report cards for each of their classes. These reports contain a summary of class grades, as well as the number of days of absences, disciplinary actions, and teacher observations for each student in the course.

To calculate a teacher’s final evaluation rating, mSGP scores are combined with the teacher practice score and SGO score to form a total evaluation score. Districts must submit accurate course rosters to NJ SMART to ensure that all qualifying teachers are eligible for an mSGP score. Teachers should verify their rosters with their supervisors before submission to ensure the accuracy of the data.

The sgp data set sgpData_INSTRUCTOR_NUMBER is an anonymized student-instructor lookup table that lists the instructor associated with a students test record for each year. This data set is a useful resource for teachers to identify the instructors that may have impacted the student’s achievement, as well as to examine individual student data by teacher.
