The Hong Kong Prize and Other High-Profile Journalism Awards

The hongkong prize is one of the world’s top writing contests, rewarding winners with monetary prizes and the chance to showcase their work at an awards ceremony. It’s also a great way to establish yourself within the industry and build a portfolio of work, but it’s important to read all rules and regulations carefully before submitting your entry. This ensures that your submission will be deemed fair and that you won’t run into any problems later on.

A controversial film about the future of Hong Kong scooped a top prize at this year’s city’s awards ceremony, despite Beijing’s disapproval over its depiction of the semi-autonomous territory as a repressive regime. The winner of the best feature award was Ten Years, which taps into residents’ fears about life in the city as Beijing tightens its grip on the former British colony.

The annual awards by the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong honour journalists’ outstanding achievements in reporting, writing, photography and design, with 78 prizes awarded across four categories. Senior news reporter Emilio Rivera won the first runner-up prize in the Best News Page Design (series) category for his series of stories on boosting HK tourism and fertility perseveration among cancer patients, while copy editor Li Bingcun secured second runner-up in the Best News Writing (English) category for her in-depth pieces titled Securing a New Lease of Life and Life at a Crossroads.

Another high-profile contest is the Hong Kong Global Development Prize, an educational incentive scheme that rewards students for academic achievement, talent and extracurricular participation and leadership. The HK$5,000 competition, organised by Generocity, seeks innovative ideas that would help shape Hong Kong’s role on the international stage. Winners will receive a monetary prize, plus the opportunity to conduct research at Hong Kong’s premier research facilities.

To be eligible for the hongkong prize, candidates must submit an original scientific research article written in their field of study and published in the past three years. The article must have made a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge in their discipline, and should have the potential to make an impact on international development. Clinical studies and observational or epidemiological articles are acceptable, while meta-analyses and review articles are not.

The judging panel will assess the quality of the submitted research, the extent to which it has influenced the advancement of science in Hong Kong and the level of public benefit it has created. The winning research team will receive a cash prize of HK$1 million, together with access to research facilities in Hong Kong for six months. In addition, the winning research team will be given an opportunity to present their research findings to key development stakeholders at an official presentation. The judging panel is comprised of experts from the government, academia and private enterprise.
