The Hong Kong Prize and the Hong Kong Film Awards
The hongkong prize is an independent merit-based award that recognises scientific research with societal benefits. The prize has attracted world-renowned scientists to Hong Kong to conduct their groundbreaking work, helping boost Hong Kong’s reputation as a hub of science and technology. Previous winners have included journalists who expose human rights abuses, activists fighting for democracy in their countries, and social justice and community service workers empowering marginalized communities. The hongkong prize is open to researchers of all nationalities, races, and genders. Applications are evaluated based on their contributions, regardless of their race, gender, religion, or political affiliation. The winning research is chosen by an expert panel that is free from sponsorship and personal interests.
In addition to the monetary reward, winners are given access to leading laboratories in Hong Kong to further their research projects and work with other experts. They also receive an engraved gold medal and the opportunity to present their work at various international conferences and symposiums. This unique opportunity has helped many finalists and winners gain recognition in their field of study and beyond, making the hongkong prize one of the most prestigious awards in science.
The prize was established in 2022 and is sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. The prize aims to attract global top science talent to Hong Kong and nurture them into forward-looking scientists, in order to support the development of the city as an international research and innovation hub. The prize focuses on five fields: artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and energy, and advanced manufacturing. Each year, experts are invited to select outstanding scientists in these fields for their pioneering efforts and the application and transformation of their research achievements for the benefit of society.
Applicants must have published research articles that are relevant to their field of study, have made significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in their area of expertise and have a positive impact on the social or economic development of society. They must have an excellent academic record and show a strong commitment to the advancement of science in Hong Kong and the region. The award is judged by an independent and impartial expert panel, and the results will be announced at an annual ceremony.
The Hong Kong Film Awards, incorporated in December 1993 and a member of the Hong Kong Federation of Movie Workers, are an annual film awards organised by a group of professional movie bodies in Hong Kong. The result is then announced at a gala ceremony in May each year.
