New HK Prize and MGM Discoveries Art Prize
A new hk prize has been launched to encourage innovative ideas from around the world to shape Hong Kong’s role on the global stage. The HK Global Development Prize is worth HK$25,000 and is supported by Generocity, an organisation that promotes social entrepreneurship and supports Hong Kong’s international development efforts. It is open to individuals and teams working in the fields of sustainable development and international cooperation. The winner will receive an engraved gold medal and a cash prize of HK$25,000.
The BMW Hong Kong Derby is widely regarded as the race every Owner wants to win, and considerable financial resources are often spent attempting to secure high-quality horses capable of making the cut. The race’s prize money, which this year amounts to a total of $275,094, is also significantly higher than those for races over shorter distances.
During the 2023/24 season, races at 1600m and beyond will again carry a 10% premium in prize money over contests run over shorter distances. These increases are part of the HK Kockey Club’s continuing commitment to rewarding Owners who invest in top-quality Derby contenders, and they are designed to help attract more horses from overseas.
Another big change comes this year with the launch of a new category at the Art Prize, supported by casino giant MGM. The first-ever MGM Discoveries Art Prize was awarded to South Korean artist Shin Min, whose installation Ew! There’s Hair in the Food delves into the harsh realities of women in the country’s high-pressure service and corporate sectors. The shortlist for the new award included two more artists from the region, namely New York-based Kayode Ojo and Mumbai-based Saju Kunhan.
In addition to the MGM Discoveries Art Prize, the prize money for this year’s Mark Six Chinese New Year Snowball draw has a potential payout of HK$188 million per winning ticket. That’s the highest prize money ever offered in a single ticket draw of the Hong Kong lottery.
If nobody wins the 1st and 2nd prizes, those amounts will be added to a Jackpot (Duo Bao Jiang) in the next draw. This can boost the amount that a single HK$10 ticket can win to about HK$100 million, which is still considerably less than the usual 1st division prize.
