The HK Prize – Celebrating Excellence in Science and Technology
The hk prize is one of Asia’s premier high school contests, honoring academic achievements and extracurricular participation. It also cultivates young people with a sense of self-challenge. Winners can earn monetary prizes as well as conduct scientific research at some of Hong Kong’s premier facilities. Besides, participating in the competition gives students an opportunity to get international recognition for their work – which can be an invaluable life experience.
Joshua Wong and his pro-democracy movement may not have won a Nobel Peace Prize, but they certainly deserve some recognition. Their unprecedented 79-day street occupation to pressure Beijing for democratic concessions was not only successful, but it also showed how determined and courageous people can be. Even though the protests were ended by a national security law, Wong’s determination is an inspiration to many.
Ronald Cheng is another Hong Kong legend who demonstrates how hard-working people can achieve great things in life. He started his career as a low-profile actor in the 1980s, but his determination and hard work has helped him become a top cantopop singer and one of Hong Kong’s biggest box office draws. Despite his age, he still continues to make new movies and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is open to all fields of scientific and technological innovation in Hong Kong. It recognises excellence in research conducted by Academy Fellows, including but not limited to artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and new energy, advanced manufacturing, and fintech. Only principal authors who have been awarded Academy Fellowship within the past 10 years are eligible for nomination. The winning submissions will be judged based on their clarity, innovativeness and research, and their alignment with Hong Kong’s unique strengths and resources, as well as their commitment to helping people at lowest cost and greatest benefit and valuing all people equally.
In addition to the HK$50,000 cash award, a trophy and an official certificate will be awarded to the winning submission. Moreover, the winner will have the chance to present their ideas to key stakeholders in the development sector. Interested parties can contact the HKAH Secretary, Dr Catherine Ladds (hongkongacademy AT outlook DOT com) for more information.
The hk prize 2023 will be the third year in which the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize has been organised by the Society for Hong Kong Studies. In the previous two years, the prize was awarded to a book on Hong Kong history and a collection of short essays. This year, the prize will be awarded to a manuscript on global Hong Kong studies. The manuscript must be written in English and have an intellectual rigour that is beyond the scope of conventional disciplines. The manuscript must also be original and have a clear theoretical framework, as well as a solid methodology and analysis. Applicants can find further information about the prize and how to apply on the Society for Hong Kong Studies website.
