If you’re looking for a refreshing pool experience to kickstart your summer, Hong Kong has some of the best. There are 22 public pools managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and many of them have amazing views of the city. You can also find a plethora of different facilities to enjoy, including splash zones and whirlpools.

There are some great options for families with kids in the north of the island too, with a number of fun water slides and activities. Hammer Hill Road is a particularly popular spot with its slew of waterslides and water shooters that kids love to explore. The water park also features a pirate ship, a round stepping pool and a toddler pool, as well as the regular teaching, training and Olympic pools.

The water is warm here too, so you can float and relax in comfort. And of course, the view is beautiful – look out for the iconic Hong Kong skyline and Victoria Harbour glinting in the background.

Alternatively, head to the rooftop of the W Hong Kong, where you’ll find a pool with bottom-to-ceiling glass windows and stunning views of the city. There’s even a mosaic wall that’s perfect for an Instagram snap or two.

Another hotel that puts a luxury spin on the swim is the Ritz-Carlton’s indoor pool. It has a Romanesque feel, with wide marble columns and coffered ceilings creating a grand setting to unwind after a long day in the city.

If you prefer to swim in a pool with a bit more history, then check out the historic Kennedy Town Swimming Pool. Designed by British firm Farrells, the pool is distinctive for its large opening cut into the zinc-clad roof, with stunning harbour views from all angles. You can also see the old tram tracks that used to run to Kennedy Town station, making it a really unique experience.

There are some good deals for swimming this summer, with a variety of discounts available. If you’re over 60 or have a disability, then you can pay just HK$17 on weekdays and HK$19 on weekends. Children under three can enter for free too.

If you’re a resident, then you can use the same discount at all the city’s 22 public swimming pools. You can also take advantage of the e-wallet system at some of the city’s most popular pools, which makes paying for your entry quick and easy.
