The HK Prize is a Global Opportunity For Young Scientists

HK Prize offers students a chance to participate in cutting-edge scientific research in one of Asia’s premier science hubs. Winners receive a monetary prize as well as seminars and research internships at universities and laboratories in Hong Kong. This is an incredible opportunity to expand their networks with renowned scientists and gain exposure globally.

The award is sponsored by Bank of Hong Kong and aims to recognise the achievements of young scientists who conduct innovative scientific research and contribute to the transformation of R&D outcomes in Hong Kong. The winners will be selected by an independent review committee and a public vote. The judges’ prizes of HK$8,000 and HK$20,000 will also be awarded to students and their teachers respectively.

Despite facing tremendous odds, these prisoners of conscience persevered in the face of the harshest oppression by China. Their dedication to human rights is an inspiration to us all, and their struggle reminds us that freedom is not a privilege granted by the state but rather a universal human right to all of humanity. Their bravery deserves our highest recognition.

A group of professors from the University of California has nominated these Hong Kong activists for the Nobel Peace Prize, saying they would “underscore the highest moral aspirations of humanity.” They are in the same league as Nazi critic Carl von Ossietzky and Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov, who received the prize after escaping from Communist prisons. They are the first Chinese political prisoners to receive such a nomination, and this year’s prize ceremony would be the first time it has been held outside of Stockholm.
